As I was involved when Project Aon started generating such choice= maps from the Lone Wolf and Grey Star books, I can contribute a tiny bit..= .

January 22, 2001, in a discussion about all the mispla= ced paragraph links in Grey Star the Wizard, I asked on our mailing list if= no-one had generated graphic representations of the books from our electro= nic versions of the Lone Wolf books. The following day another Project Aon = contributor had located the Graphviz software and written the first embryo = of a (Unix shell) script that extracted information from the HTML pages of = book and fed it to the 'dot' program in the Graphviz suite. The fir= st choice maps we made were GIF files, but unfortunately I cannot find any = of these early files.

Later on in 2002 I rewrote t= he script in Perl and I have attached a late version of it (gengraph.pl) from early 2003, that st= ill uses the HTML pages and produces a GIF file as output.. I also attached= the small instruction I wrote.

Later the script w= as updated again, to use the XML source file format that Project Aon uses t= o generate HTML and other format, and to create the much more usable SVG fi= les instead of GIF images. I have attached an early such file from November= 2003, showing the choice map for Grey Star the Wizard. Unfortunately it se= ems like today's web browsers does't like it, but I can open it in = an old version of Opera I have installed (though the text in the nodes is t= oo large), and even click on the nodes too see the book paragraphs on the P= roject Aon website!

So= meone on twitter noticed my history of choice mapping, reminding me that I = meant to post about it in various places once it was done, and then got inv= olved in other things (mostly NaNoWriMo-ing a gamebook):

Let me k= now if you spot any missing prior art.
